In the world of water purification, the filter cartridge is often regarded as
the “heart” of the water purifier. But how exactly does this crucial component work?


Most water purifiers use a multi – stage filtration system. The first stage usually
consists of a sediment filter. This filter is designed to trap large particles
such as sand, rust, and dirt. These contaminants are physically blocked by
the filter media, which could be made of materials like PP cotton.

The second stage is often an activated carbon filter. Activated carbon has a
large surface area with countless tiny pores. It works through a process
called adsorption. Organic compounds, chlorine, and some odors are attracted to the surface
of the activated carbon and held there, effectively removing them from the water.
The third stage might be a reverse osmosis (RO) membrane in more advanced

water purifiers. RO membranes have extremely small pores, allowing only water
molecules to pass through while rejecting dissolved salts, heavy metals,
and most bacteria. The water is forced through the membrane under pressure,
separating the clean water from the contaminants.
The final stage could be a post – carbon filter. Its role is to further polish the water,
removing any remaining traces of odor or taste, and ensuring the water
comes out fresh and clean. In summary, the filter cartridge, with its multi – stage design,
plays a vital role in purifying water, making it safe and suitable for our daily use.
